SafePlay

For parents of children aged roughly 3 to 12

YouTube, but only the channels you chose.

SafePlay gives your child a video app with no algorithm, no rabbit holes and no Shorts unless you allow them. You approve channels — per child, in minutes — and that is all they can watch. 100% whitelist, 0% recommendations.

The problem

One good video is never the problem. The next twenty are.

YouTube is built to keep watching going. A cartoon leads to a “kids” video that isn't, a science channel leads to Shorts, and ten minutes becomes an hour you didn't choose. Parental controls filter some of the bad; they don't remove the engine that finds it.

SafePlay removes the engine. Your child sees the channels you approved and nothing else — no suggestions, no autoplay, no comments, no ads from SafePlay (videos play in YouTube's player). You get the good bits of YouTube with the whole rabbit hole gone.

How it works

Set up in about ten minutes. Adjust in seconds.

  1. 1

    Add a child

Give each child their own profile. A 4-year-old and a 10-year-old in the same house never share a list by accident.

  2. 2

    Approve channels

Paste a link or search by name, preview what the channel actually posts, then approve it for one child. Turn on Strict Mode if you want to okay each new upload yourself.

  3. 3

    Hand over the device

Pair the SafePlay app to that child, set a grown-ups PIN, and they browse only what you chose. Change your mind and it's gone from their screen in seconds.

What you control

Everything a whitelist needs to survive real family life

A whitelist only works if keeping it up isn't a chore. These are the tools that make it stick.

Whitelist only, per child

Nothing plays unless you approved the channel. There is no algorithm to game, no “up next”, no autoplay into the unknown.

Strict Mode for new uploads

Trust a channel's back catalogue but not its future? New videos wait in one review queue until you say yes. Free on every plan.

Shorts, on your terms

Block Shorts for a child with one switch, or allow them on a channel you trust. Even YouTube Kids can't do this reliably.

Screen time that asks, not nags

Set a daily budget per child. When it runs out, the app lets them ask for more time — and you approve or decline from your phone.

Clean links to share

Paste any YouTube URL and get a link that plays that one video with nothing around it. Perfect for a class group chat or the grandparents. No account needed to watch.

AI safety grades

On the Family plan, every approved channel gets a plain-English safety grade and a reason, refreshed regularly. Advisory — the decision is always yours.

Built to be trusted

We're on the parent's side, structurally.

Most “safe” video apps still make money from attention. SafePlay is paid for by parents, so nothing in it is designed to keep your child watching longer.

  • Children never sign in

No Google account, no email, no password on the child's side. The app is paired to a profile you control.

  • No ads from SafePlay, ever

On either plan; videos play in YouTube's player. The app is paid for by parents, not by attention.

  • No profiling, no recommendations

We don't build a picture of your child from what they watch. Content only ever comes from your list.

  • Built for the UK Children's Code

Data minimisation by design: a first name, an optional birth year, and watch history for the window your plan includes. Nothing more.

FAQ

Questions parents ask first

Is this YouTube Kids?

No. YouTube Kids still recommends videos from an algorithm and can't reliably block Shorts. SafePlay shows your child only the channels you approved, in the order they were uploaded — nothing suggested, nothing autoplayed, no ads from SafePlay; videos play in YouTube's own player.

Does my child need a Google or YouTube account?

No. Children never sign in to anything. You pair the SafePlay app on their device to one child profile, protected by a grown-ups PIN, and your own account never lives on the device.

What is Strict Mode?

Normally, approving a channel makes its whole catalogue watchable, including future uploads. With Strict Mode on, new uploads from an approved channel wait in your review queue until you say yes. It's free on every plan.

How fast does removing a channel take effect?

Immediately. The child's app syncs live, so a channel you remove disappears from their screen within seconds — even mid-browse.

What happens if I cancel the Family plan?

Nothing is deleted and nothing needs re-approving. Each child keeps their 8 most recently approved channels active; anything over the free limit is paused and hidden from the child, and comes straight back if you upgrade again.

What do you do with my child's data?

As little as possible. We store a first name, an optional birth year and watch history for the time window your plan includes. There is no advertising, no profiling and no recommendation engine — content only ever comes from your list. We designed for the UK Children's Code from the start.

Do the videos still play through YouTube?

Yes. Videos play in YouTube's own embedded player, with YouTube's own controls, inside a frame we control. We curate what's around the video; we don't modify the player or download anything.
